Who I am and Why I’m Here.

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, with both of my biological parents. I have two brothers  that are younger than I am. Yet somehow I’m still considered the baby. May be because I’m female. Yes, I think that’s what one of my brothers told me.

At the age of nine years of age I grew up loving and fixated on a camera and it’s components. Not only did I want to learn how to shoot a 35mm film camera, I needed to know how the camera worked technically to create images. As a teen, I became the appointed family photographer . There wasn’t anything I wouldn’t shoot if I thought it would leave a piece of history.

Now that I’m older, not only do I want to photograph women, of all races, sizes and ages to promote self love.  I want to be more of a positive advocate for women.  In nearly all facets of my life I have experienced women with low self esteem and noticed how females aren’t as kind to one another as they should.  I want to be the face of self love and positiveness to all women.

You’ll find blogs regarding healthy eating, self love, beauty tips, product reviews and some lifestyle as well. Hopefully some of my blogs will reflect that I’m human and I share  challenges sometimes. I’m not just a face behind a computer. Vibe with me. Share and leave comments. I would love that.

While I enjoy blogging on various topics of interest. My main focus is the lovely women  over 40. When your a woman that’s over 40, you face new challenges in life. There’s how society views women over 40, health challenges and the desire to feel  accepted and  beautiful as your body changes.

What I Did For Valentines Day.

I know some people don’t celebrate this Hallmark holiday, but I’m all for anything that is sweet. With all of the negativity that goes on in the world everyday, Valentines Day is welcomed around here. Now some of you may not have a special someone in your life and perhaps that’s why you don’t care much for valentines . Then there are those who think it’s just a commercial day to spend money. Whatever your feelings are about this day set aside; to openly express love. Don’t forget to love yourself no matter what.

I spent my valentines in Manhattan, New York.  The trip was amazing despite a few little hiccups in the plan. It was a part of my bucket list. I’ve always wanted to do this and I can finally check it off. Done!  It’s truly a blessing to live out some of my dreams and obtain a few goals. What did you do on Valentines Day?  Read below this picture. hearts  Leave a comment about your day.  In the meantime watch this video.

Ladies: How To Build The Perfect Wardrobe For Your Guy

Believe it or not I love mens fashion. On the contrary there is always a lot of talk about clothes that are offered to women.  In the meantime, mens fashion is neglected, because there is this stigma that men do not care about style.  Perhaps more women are interested in fashion. They read style magazines and nearly every woman at least once in their life has thought about becoming a model.

As you set out to help your guy refine his dress code, Think about which wardrobe words of wisdom is worth heeding. At any rate I think your guy should have a little of everything in his  closet to have enough pieces for every occasion. You should never have to run out and buy him anything on a fly for something specific. It should be in his closet already. Much like a stylish woman. If she’s attending an after 5 event, there should be a few gowns in her wardrobe prepared for that special event.

For my guy ( hubby) I started with refining his dress shirts. He wears suits almost daily for business. It was time to increase the amount of shirts and freshen his wardrobe with new ones. I shop at JoS. A. Bank the majority of the time for his business attire.  They are  known for high quality menswear. They have an array of classic and casual  styled clothing.  JoS. A. Bank, is a bit pricey but you get your monies worth.  As a perk, you’ll receive $50.00 as a reward for spending $500.00.  The pay off is that you will look great for years to come. If your guy is a professional, looking great should be his last concern.

The hubby and I made another trip to my favorite mens shop Make sure your guy not only gets measured but try on the shirts. Sometimes the measurement doesn’t always equate to comfort. JOS BANK

Yes, You Need To Wash Your New Undies.

I won’t kid around with you, I hadn’t always thought this way. As a child until I was a young adult. I’d always put the undies on without washing them. My philosophy then,” if they are new; they’re clean.” Well that’s partially true. New undies should be washed before you wear them. It isn’t always about them being new.  They should be clean, they are new. Right? Let’s take this a step further.

Here are reasons why you should wash your new undies before you wear them:

  1. Women try on underwear before they purchase them
  2. The dyes can transfer to your skin   ( Especially dark or bright)
  3. Formaldehyde is found in fabrics
  4. So many people have touched them with their bare hands ( The factory workers…ect.)
  5. The paper liner may not be fresh
  6. Menstrual blood may be present
  7. Chemicals used to make the undies ( There are 8,000 chemicals used)
  8. Germs can live on cotton from a few minutes to 6 months
  9. Cotton is sprayed with pesticides
  10. Coated with fire retardants for transport

Have you ever gone shopping and felt sick  a few days afterwards?  It can come from a women with staphylococcus ( Stomach flu) , which can hang around in a persons body a few days after vomiting and diarrhea is over. For instance the woman feels better and now she’s gone shopping. Guess what! She tried on the undies that you ended up buying.

I hope I made you think the next time you decide to wear, before you wash. It’s certainly changed me.

Happy New Year!

To piggy back off of Gabriela, from Cooking With Limits blog post, finding what you love is essential to a healthy life.  It makes no sense to continue doing the same thing and expect a different result. Sure it’s a cliche, but you know it’s tried and true.

I never make resolutions, but I hope for a better year every year. There are so many things I want to achieve. Disturbingly I will never be able to do them all. Therefore, why list them. I take one day at a time and work on anything that is in my control based on the order of importance. Does it sound boring? Yes, it can be, but that’s where patience come into play. They say life is what you make of it. I think life is how you handle it. It may be the same meaning, but it sounds better to me.

Gabriela, learned more about wines in 2017. She discovered the difference between a bad wine and a good one. It’s great to find a passion or calling in this world. It’s so great for the soul. Check out Cooking Without Limits blog. I’m not afraid to promote her blog. She has awesome content and they’re is enough love and opportunities here for all. She’s one of the best food photographers I know. Well, I don’t know her personally, but you get the gist.

For me, I’ve learned to use my past experiences to teach self love to others. I used my Youtube platform to show women that we’re all beautiful and have special talents. I took this to a level where women of all ages, and races reach out to me almost daily to say,  “Thank you for your kind words.” Sometimes all it takes is a compliment to lift another woman’s spirit.   Some of the most beautiful women in the world lack drive, because of the media’s unrealistic standards of beauty.  This is why I have adopted this movement that I believe is incredibly important.  Self hate causes low self esteem, suicide, eating disorders , isolation , mood swings, hatred towards others. I believe I call it catty. Moreover, it can effect your job performance, family relationships and more. It starts with loving yourself first. After learning to love myself for who I am.    It’s truly been gratifying to know that I’ve partaken in something that may seem  small to others, but a huge part of making a difference in someone’s life.  Self love was my mantra in 2017. I think I’ll stay on that path.

Do you make new year’s resolutions?

When to Throw Away Makeup

Very few people think about the expiration on makeup until it effects them in a harmful way. Especially makeup that someone has paid a pretty nickel for. There is this persona the more it cost the longer it last.

As a matter of fact all makeup has the same shelf life. Some may react to your skin or show signs of expiration more-so than another brand. For instance e.l.f cosmetics is climbing up the popularity charts; with it’s clean black and white packaging.  It is inexpensive, but it offers a nice look for the money. Some of e.l.f’s products may not stand up to  it’s predecessor, but overall it’s doing ok.  It isn’t the worse makeup on the market for sure.

The cream eyeliner in a pot is a great product. Generally it should be replaced every 3 months, which makes more sense to purchase the e.l.f cream eyeliner. It’s only $3.00 and the shelf life is the same as any gel, cream or liquid ( high-end as well) liner.  You get a lot of bang for your buck! It is bold, defining and easy to apply with the small angle brush that came with it. The cream eyeliner is encased in a 17oz. pot. Once it dries, you’ll find that it’s smudge proof, water resistant and coverage for an all day wear. May I suggest you try this liner with Ardell #135 faux lashes or for a more glam look, try Ardell #205. I haven’t tried any of e.l.f’s faux lashes. Perhaps I’ve give them a whirl.

We Have a Love Hate Relationship.

Have you ever loved something so much, you couldn’t dream of being without it? What about the old saying, “All that looks good isn’t good for you?’ Such a cliche, but I hate to tell you it’s true.

Why is the world so full of things that aren’t good for us, God?  Yeah I’m talking to you, but make it known I’m not yelling at you. You’re the almighty.  It’s frustrating to say the least. You allow others to make so many guilty pleasures and the we have to make a choice. Think of the outcome. It sounds to much like life. We have choices; to either choose door number 1 or door number 2.  Besides life is what you make of it. Right?

It’s been nearly three weeks since I’ve been clean. I walk pass them all of the time, sometimes I contemplate having them in my life just one more time. My mind tells me it will not hurt, but my blood says , no. I can think better, have more control and I am worrying less about my well being. Sure, it makes me feel good for the moment.  That’s what hurts so good. No more hiding and indulging with you.  I have comfort and control on a dreary night.  No more  guilt, I’m no longer sluggish and my body doesn’t has to work harder to eliminate it.  I owe my kidneys an apology.

I love you, but I can’t keep doing this to myself.  The longterm affect isn’t worth the doctor visits. When I see you, often times I opt to go the other way. Everything that looks  good isn’t good. I’m sorry but I can’t …

Our First Thanksgiving Together

I’m so elated to bring you this blog! It took me a while to calm down and get my thoughts together. I’ve been pretty consistent with writing blogs , but so much has happened in the last few days. My birthday is this month, a day later was Thanksgiving and six days later was my wedding anniversary ! November is a busy month for me in deed.

Normally I make a big feast at home for thanksgiving and beg everyone  the rest of the week to please finish the leftovers. No matter how much I beg, It doesn’t work. I eat as much as my little body can handle  and the garbage can gets the rest. Each time I throw food in the trash, I can hear my Dads voice from heaven. ” Do you know there are people in the world starving, while you’re putting food in the garbage.” Not this time,Dad.  I did a great job this year.  I prepared enough food for one meal.

You’re not here to read about the small meal I made this year. You want to know where I went for the first time. Right? In my head, I can see you nodding in agreement. Well, my daughter has been dating this ” Mommy Approved Guy, “ for three years now . I finally met his family. I’ll tell you in different  blog  why it took so long to meet his family.

I didn’t actually meet them alone . I was accompanied by my wonderful husband and son. We were greeted with open arms. They all felt they knew us, because my daughter talks about us  and she shows pictures and videos of us all of the time.  It was at least 15 of us in the house between the two families. Everyone was chatting amongst one another while, my son – in – law -to be’s mother,   was  prepping the food. Everything was already cooked and she had everything looking scrumptious and gorgeous . As a Mom I wanted to help, but I was forewarned that she doesn’t allow anyone  to help. It was tough for me to watch her do everything alone; but I managed by holding a baby. This kept my hands busy for a while.

As we all gathered in the kitchen in a circle, we all held hands and said a prayer before eating. Then we proceeded to the dining room to a beautifully decorated dining table with such lovely dinnerware. The ambience was perfect.  Candles were lit and it was so cozy.   It was amazing to see all of the smiling faces at the table from the youngest to the oldest. The joy’s of watching  families form. All because of our children deciding to get together. My Dad would be so proud of his granddaughter.

It isn’t like me to miss out on capturing moments on camera . Then again I wasn’t sure how anyone would feel with me creating photos. In lieu of  possibly making anyone uncomfortable  I decided to enjoy the conversations that were so easily developed. No one seemed as if they were forcing themselves to get to know one another. We talked about our favorite actors and movies we’ve watched; while the youngsters taught us about snapchat.

Here is a sneak peek from a video my daughter shot.Daralynn

I’ll always remember this day. It was very special because it’s the new chapter to my daughter’s life. It’s the possibility of extending our family. Hopefully  we’ll see one another more often. The little one’s have already grown attached to me and have invited me to their soccer games. I’ve always been a child magnet.  Here is our video .

Louis Vuitton: Is It Worth It?

Louis Vuitton is it  worth the hype? This is such an age old question. Should you invest in a genuine Louis Vuitton bag?

Moving right along to the popular  LV monogram speedy.  A luxury piece historically made for Audrey Hepburn; has become the most well known luxury bag by the young and old.   If you’ve never heard of Louis Vuitton, You’ve definitely  been sleeping under a rock. It is an expensive piece, but not as expensive as Hermes or Chanel. Yet, it is the most sought after and most copied bag in the world by counterfeiters.

To the subject at hand. Is this bag worth the investment? It is a bag that readily goes up in price to attract more high end customers. It holds it’s value and never ever goes out of style. Some of you may know someone whose owned a LV speedy since the late  80’s; It’s likely to be in remarkable shape. The older it gets the more history, character it has and  more in demand due to it’s history.  Through the years the bag has slight subtleties. Yet it has always been constructed with canvas and leather  material. The canvas gives some people heartburn. Not enough to bring sells to a halt.  More often than not it is admired as the bag of a certain social status. Yet counterfeiters continue to infringe on the copyright and brand.

The LV speedy continues to be one of the fastest-selling luxury pieces. The speedy remains popular due to its high demand. I mean look at it! The canvas leather is strikingly sturdy and can handle a good beating through the hustle and bustle of busy stay at home moms or corporate  moms. The diapers, wipes, phones, calendars or whatever you carry, will get swallowed in the speedy. Often times I have lost things in mine. I look several times and to only find out it’s in the bag.

Final Thoughts:

The bag is only worth it, if you think it is. I was proud to get mine and I thought it was worth it.

Is it worth it?

Why is Fashion Fair Cosmetics so Hard to Find?

untitled-4777-1.jpgWhile fledging cosmetic brands emerge, have you ever thought about why more established brands struggle to re-invent themselves?

I’m talking about Fashion Fair cosmetics. What’s going on with them? It is so tough to find a Fashion Fair counter in the malls. Whenever I’m pictured on Instagram.   with Fashion Fair cosmetics I receive comments, unaware of its existence. While others thought something was wrong with  the product. Better yet, it’s thought of as an older woman’s brand.

You may find blogs, videos, post on Instagram by me regarding the brand, because it’s a brand I truly believe in. Those who rely on Fashion Fair for exact skin tone matches and flattering lipsticks have been unable to locate their favorite products. For me, I searched off and on for years. My favorite shade of lipstick is still  chocolate raspberry . Don’t let that hot fuchsia shade fool you! It looks great with the NYX lip liner in Prune . You can go without a liner if you have a natural line already. Just apply the lipstick below the natural line.  Chocolate Raspberry will make you look radiant . There is this stigma that if you’re dark skinned you need to wear dark lipstick. Thats not true. Sometimes  its the application that matters. Some darker skin tones may need to conceal the lips first . Play around with it. If you are use to going dark all of the time, it will be an adjustment. The brighter shade also makes your teeth look whiter. Now did I make you want to try it? I hope so!

It’s not easy to walk the road less traveled by exposing Fashion Fair, when most people thought they’d gone out of business. My passion is behind the story of how Fashion Fair was  founded. It was founded in 1973 and catered to women of color at a time when major companies refused to accommodate their needs.

Linda Johnson , which owns the makeup line claims Fashion Fair is only rebuilding their inventory .

Beauty products are not essentials to survive, but Fashion Fair is a bit of history.
